Film Ideas

Now that we've decided to switch the focus of our production piece, we're going to have to formulate an idea for the film pretty quickly. Right now I have a few prospects for how the film could work. The ideas are in order of seriousness.

Documentary (on something, anything, whatever.)

A documentary would be ideal to create, with no need for actors, all we'd need is some footage of our subject matter and a voice-over, which either of us could make. My original idea was to do a documentary on a city, such as Sunderland. Cities are filled with monuments and things that you can take all manner of fancy shots of, mixing that footage with a semi-dramatic telling of the story behind the monument could have a great effect. Jonathan isn't too enthusiastic about the idea and to be honest I have to agree that it is a little creatively lazy. Don't judge us if we end up making a documentary anyway though!

A Silent 'Montage' Sequence

This concept has much more room for creative input, and it's entirely inspired by these two videos:

Let's be honest, you're all tearing up inside. Those sequences tell a specific, simple story, beautifully. Of course this concept really only deals with how we make the film, we still need some actual content.

A Zombie Movie Sequel

This concept is entirely Jonathan's. Making a zombie film last year was awkward, and really it wasn't so much of a zombie film. This isn't a great idea.
Continuing Robert's story is just asking for trouble, it was only through extreme excellence and work that we didn't completely mess up the idea the first time. So perhaps a similar story? I don't hold much hope. The real difficulty with a story like this is the sound, the cameras we use are usually not the best, but they can produce a decent picture quality; what we don't have is a external microphone system, we're stuck with using the one on the camera, it really doesn't produce a quality audio recording though. That was the reason for the voice-over and the dog talking last time, we didn't use any sound from the actual scene, apart from at the end. All of the monologue was recorded at a later date using Jonathan's super-expensive fancy headset, and Audacity.

A Biopic about a down on his luck Jazz Pianist

We don't know much about Jazz, or playing piano. We also don't know anyone we could make a film about. This would be entirely fictional.

A hard-hitting drama about corporate greed in the modern world

TF2 hats, and what people will do to obtain them. Also Dota 2 cosmetics, as if anyone actually ever even played that game ever. This idea isn't so serious, much like the one above it. But at least this one has something to do with us. Hats man. Hats.

That's really all for now. From what we've been told it doesn't sound like we'll be able to film soon, I was hoping to get all of our footage this weekend, but if we can't get a camera sorted then that's not going to happen. Such a shame that we won't be able to progress until later.

Loyalty in times like this would be appreciated, we've got a lot of technical and idealogical issues we need to ameliorate, and having faith in the blog and our development team is just a top notch thing to do.

  1. I would encourage to get your ideas firmed up soon and also to plan to complete your filming asap so that you leave your selves plenty of time for editing and other post production elements of your filming.
